Who will care for your pet when you no longer can?

To pet owners, ensuring their beloved animals are taken care of after they are gone is of great importance. Who will be notified so that your pet's care is not interrupted? Who will care for your pets after you are gone?

A  Pet Trust can appoint a caregiver, appoint a Trustee and provide funds and specific directions for the pet's care and well being. Planning can lead to peace of mind, reducing the anxiety that many pet owners experience when they envision how their beloved pet would live without them.

Why Plan?

Even though pet’s have a short life expectancy, your pets may outlive you. And some pets naturally live a long life like parrots

You can design a plan that provides care not only in the event of your death, but also in case of your temporary or permanent disability.  In the event that something unexpected happens to you, you should provide a person with keys to your home, feeding and care instructions, the name of your veterinarian, and information about permanent care instructions.

What is a Pet Trust?

A Pet Trust is a legal document you create to ensure that your pets will be cared for as you  have cared for them.

With the Pet Trust, you appoint a Caregiver and at least one successor Caregiver to provide care for your pet. You also appoint a Trustee  to manage the money and ensure that the Caregiver is doing his or her job.

In the trust document, you provide explicit directions regarding your pet's health care, exercise and diet needs, preferred veterinarian, and burial/cremation plans. You also determine who should get the remaining funds in the trust at the death of the pet.

Providing an orderly plan for your pet can lead to peace of mind.
